About Mountain View Cemetery

Mountain View Cemetery is the only cemetery owned and operated by the City of Vancouver.

  • Address / Location: 5455 Fraser Street, between 31st and 43rd Avenues in Vancouver, BC

  • Size & History: Covering about 106 acres, it contains some 92,000 graves and more than 150,000 interments.

  • The City has owned and operated it since its establishment in 1886, and it is maintained under municipal oversight.

Mountain View offers both traditional casket burial sites and interment spaces for cremated remains (in-ground and above-ground).

Because it is city-owned, there is no secondary resale market of private plots at Mountain View. All plots are sold directly by the City under its policies and availability schedules.

Plot & Interment Options

Heritage Gardens offers several interment and memorial property types to serve different family preferences and budgets:

Because Mountain View is municipally operated and no private owner plot resale is allowed, your only path to acquiring a plot is through the City’s own sales or reclaimed unused sites.

The City also maintains a schedule of fees and rules for memorial markers and decorations to ensure the grounds remain dignified and uniform.

Chapel & Funeral Services

Mountain View Cemetery features a Celebration Hall — a light-filled space suitable for memorial services, gatherings, and events.

While Mountain View does not operate as a private funeral home, this hall allows families to host a memorial or service onsite, minimizing the need to move to a separate venue.

The hall supports viewings, memorial ceremonies, and receptions in a respectful, dignified environment under municipal care.

Why Choose Mountain View & How We Help

  • It is the only municipal cemetery in Vancouver, run by the City, with no private plot owners.

  • Because plots are sold only by the City and not via private resale, you avoid complications, uncertainty, or disputes associated with private plot transactions.

  • The City ensures maintenance, rules, and governance under public oversight.

  • The cemetery’s long heritage, mature landscaping, and prime location make it a meaningful legacy site.

Why Choose Mountain View?

  • Help you navigate the City’s plot purchase process — when they open new plot sales, how to apply, and what’s required

  • Explain the rules, fees, and interment rights (e.g. how cremated remains are handled, how many remains allowed, etc.)

  • Assist you in planning memorial services, including use of the Celebration Hall

  • Provide clarity on marker, monument, or decoration restrictions under City bylaws
